Are you ready to WALK LIKE AN EGYPTIAN?
Join us for our 8th Annual Matoaka Walkathon to be held on October 17th at the school.
Our goal is to raise $15,000, and with more than 725 students, we think we can do it! With a little bit of effort and a lot of Cardinal teamwork from every student we can not only reach our goal but beat it!

Funds raised will DIRECTLY SUPPORT our school and our students. Last year, the Walkathon paid for reading and math educational programs, hands-on learning opportunities such as our Living Wedge animal and science center, and field trips such as the Cheasapeake Experience which allows students to get out on the local waters and learn about the environment that surrounds them. The Walkathon also funded PTA programs such as the Dad’s Club breakfast and campout, Family Fun Nights, professional theater and musical performances for our students, the school garden, teacher appreciation activities, the Veteran’s Day reception, the healthy lifestyles program and much more.
On October 17th, Matoaka students will “Walk Like An Egyptian” for 20-30 minutes during the school day on a course marked in front of the school to earn the pledges they have collected.
You are invited and join us on October 17th to cheer on your student as they walk!
Walkathon Class Schedule
- 9:30 – 10:00 Kindergarten & 1st Grade
- 10:15 – 10:45 4th & 5th Grade
- 11:00 – 11:30 2nd & 3rd Grade

Raffle Prizes: For every $20 increment donated you will be entered to win a prize valued at approximately $100. Prizes include: 6 passes to Greatwolf Lodge Indoor Water Park and 4 passes to GoApe Junior Course
Individual Participation Raffle: Just for walking everyone will be entered to win “Principal for the Day” or “Lunch with the Vice Principal”.
Highest Earning Class Prizes: AMF Bowling Party or a WISC Turf Party with Snacks and drinks. Teachers also receive their own special prize!
Greatest Participation Classroom Prize: Pizza and Movie! Teachers also receive their own special prize!
Top Grade Level Prizes: Duck Donuts, Dunkin Donuts, Smallcakes, Dominos, Hershey Chocolate Bar Party, Channellos Pizza, and Martins Bakery.
Help Your Student Make the Walkathon A Success:
Every student can contribute and no pledge is too small! All pledges are a flat rate and do not relate to the laps or time spent walking by each student.
1. PRINT THE PLEDGE SHEET - Assist your students in contacting friends and family via email, phone, or in person to request pledges. Any person or business can sponsor a pledge. Print the pledge sheet here to began collecting cash or check donations. (Checks should be made payable to MES PTA)
2. REQUET DONATIONS ONLINE – We have established a secure PayPal account which will allow us to collect money and track it to the appropriate student and class. Share the link with your friends and family. We also suggest that you SHARE the donations page on your Facebook and/or Twitter accounts. Just make sure your friends mention your child’s name on the donation form.
